Zinc is an essential mineral necessary for sustaining all life. Dr. Wong has included 100 mg (milligrams) of elemental zinc in each capsule of our Zinc Citrate. Why so much? Because of how many bodily systems and how much body tissue needs it to perform at its best. We've written a blog post about it and have linked to that for your convenience: Zinc's 7 Essential Functions.

**Please Note: A few of our New Zealand customers have had trouble importing our Zinc Citrate. If you live in New Zealand, we cannot guarantee that this item will be deliverable to you.

Zinc Citrate: Zinc citrate is elemental zinc chelated (combined) with citric acid giving it superior absorbability as anything combined with something in the Vitamin C family is absorbed instantly and almost completely. For more information about the importance, we've included a link to Dr. Wong's Blog Post:

Zinc: Essential Roles and Therapeutic Potential

Abstract

Zinc is an essential micronutrient that participates in a multitude of cellular and biochemical processes. It is indispensable for normal growth and the maintenance of physiological functions. As one of the most significant trace elements in the body, zinc fulfills three primary biological roles: catalytic, structural, and regulatory. It serves as a cofactor in over 300 enzymes, and more than 3000 proteins require zinc, underscoring its crucial role in numerous physiological processes such as cell division and growth, immune function, tissue maintenance, as well as synthesis protein and collagen synthesis. Zinc deficiency has been linked to increased oxidative stress and inflammation, which may contribute to the pathogenesis of a multitude of diseases, like neurological disorders and cancer. In addition, zinc is a key constituent of zinc-binding proteins, which play a pivotal role in maintaining cellular zinc homeostasis. This review aims to update and expand upon the understanding of zinc biology, highlighting the fundamental roles of zinc in biological processes and the health implications of zinc deficiency. This work also explores the diverse functions of zinc in immune regulation, cellular growth, and neurological health, emphasizing the need for further research to fully elucidate the therapeutic potential of zinc supplementation in disease prevention and management.

Zinc and Growth

Zinc and growth

Affiliations

Abstract

Zinc is an essential nutrients and plays an important role in growth and sexual function. Zinc deficiency has been known to cause growth retardation and hypogonadism. Several mechanisms of growth retardation and hypogonadism due to zinc deficiency have been suggested. Zinc affects growth hormone (GH) metabolism. Conversely, GH affects zinc metabolism. Zinc deficiency may result in reduced GH production and/or insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I). Zinc deficiency may also affect bone metabolism and gonadal function. The interrelationships among zinc, growth, gonadal function, and GH-IGF-I axis appears to be complex.

The Role of Zinc in Immune System

Abstract

The human body cannot store zinc reserves, so a deficiency can arise relatively quickly, e.g., through an improper diet. Severe zinc deficiency is rare, but mild deficiencies are common around the world. Many epidemiological studies have shown a relationship between the zinc content in the diet and the risk of cancer. The anti-cancer effect of zinc is most often associated with its antioxidant properties. However, this is just one of many possibilities, including the influence of zinc on the immune system, transcription factors, cell differentiation and proliferation, DNA and RNA synthesis and repair, enzyme activation or inhibition, the regulation of cellular signaling, and the stabilization of the cell structure and membranes. This study presents selected issues regarding the current knowledge of anti-cancer mechanisms involving this element.

Keywords: cancer; defense mechanisms; immune system; zinc.

Product FAQs

Please see below for the most commonly asked questions about Zinc Citrate. We will continually add more FAQs to this as more questions come in to us.

How do I take your zinc product

Our Zinc Citrate can be taken alone, with other supplements or with or without food. Many people find they'd rather take it with a meal than on an empty stomach.

Is it safe to take 100mg of Zinc?

According to Hams Histology all epithelial tissue uses zinc as its primary mineral building block. The RDA is developed by incrementally starving a one ounce lab mouse of a particular nutrient, ignoring its acquiring micro deficiency conditions and when it gets a macro deficiency disease, they go one incremental step back, add 5 mg of measure and bingo / magic you’re got the human RDA!!! Even the likes of the NY Academy of Science, decades ago, has called it entirely unscientific.

How many more pounds of skin, muscle, internal organs and eyes (epithelial tissue), do you have over a one ounce lab mouse? Since the making of all hormones depend on zinc and magnesium as essential cofactors, zinc is needed for those as well. For example we’ve found that ALL diabetics especially Type 1 are zinc deficient!

Do I need to add copper to my supplements if I take zinc?

No. As for zinc displacing and chelating out copper:   We store copper in the brain and it causes all manner of disease: Copper Toxicity Syndrome

So, so what if zinc chelates out copper!   It’s the only thing that can chelate excess copper out of the brain!

Why do you use Zinc Citrate in your zinc product?

Zinc citrate is the best absorbed zinc! Most zinc supplements are very, very poorly absorbed. The oxides are mostly excreted; those chelated to amino acids need to further bond to a lipid (fat) to be transported across the intestinal wall; those that are chelated to sugars (gluconates) don't get in as well either. But, anything bonded to anything in the Vitamin C family such as citric acid, vitamin c, ascorbates, etc are taken in instantly and almost completely.
